Back in january I came across Lauren Groff's The Vaster Wilds by accident and the book had a grip on me like nothing else for a long time. I proceeded to read through all of Groff's books which is something I have never bothered to do with any writer. But now that I have put the last one down and have no more left…. I feel empty!!
What I love about her writing:
- world building and how she can draw me into situations and environments I would not ordinarily find interesting (eg. The Matrix)
- poetical prose style, especially when describing specific details
- gripping situations the protagonists finds themselves in
- a certain chilling darkness leaping out from the stories
- philosophical /spiritual bend, just the tight amount
- protagonists often seem to be lonely, or misunderstood
Can you recommend someone similar? Or even singular books that remind you of her works. My faves of hers in order: The Vaster Wilds, Matrix, Fates & Furies, Delicate Edible Birds, Arcadia, Monsters of Templeton, Florida.
Thank you!
