My all time fave is Quit Like a Woman: The Radical Choice to Not Drink in a Culture Obsessed with Alcohol by Holly Whitaker because it ties her personal experience of alcoholism and sobriety with norms in our society (US perspective at least) and has really impactful science and some historical components.
So, looking for something along those lines of personal growth / journeys with additional historical, societal, or scientific connections.
