One of the most profound things to me in The Last of Us (game and show) was that Ellie and Joel formed such a strong father-daughter relationship after just meeting randomly and having their paths cross.
I’m wondering if there are any books like this? I’ve been enjoying the postapocalyptic genre – my new fav book of all time is The Road. I read Station Eleven (admittedly I think I liked the show more) – I like the fact that Kristen found ‘her people’ – and I also looooved the show’s change with her and Jeevan. I loved that they were nearly strangers and then he became a father-like figure to her (see the pattern here lol).
Does anyone have any suggestions for books about finding family? Particularly around a child figure (can be an adult) finding a parental figure?
Thanks!

There is of course Matilda by Roald Dahl.
I really like The Long Way to a Small Angry Planet for the concept of found family and difficult families of origin.
True Grit by Charles Portis!
