Hi, Im a hobbyist writer and my current project has some asoiaf and dune inspired great houses (is great house a real term or just a dune thing i dont even know) and im looking for a book that talks about the real life lords and their politics that I can go back to whenever I'm stuck at something or if I don't know the right word or term for something.
Im not looking for a specific country, place or period, I just need a source of inspiration that i can also use to get my facts straight (even though my project is a space opera, i like when scifi has close roots to real life subjects)
I heard asoiaf was inspired by something called the war of the roses, maybe something about that? Im not the best at history

Might not be exactly what you’re looking for, but The Florentines by Paul Strathern is a very good introduction to the important figures of the Renaissance in Florence and focuses a lot on the rise and fall of the Medici family as well as the politics in Italy at the time. It’s super interesting and I really enjoyed it!
“The White Ship: conquest, anarchy and the wrecking of Henry I’s dream” by Spencer.
