I loved The Bee Sting and have recommended it to everyone I know. It made me laugh and seemed a bit like a comic romp for a while before I grew to love the characters and therefore hit me very hard by the end. Skippy Dies by the same author and as also similar but TBS has kind of ruined me for other books I loved it so much. Another book that I loved was The Orohan Master’s Son which seemed really fantastical and semi comic until a couple of chapters involving a North Korean prison camp disabused me of any notion that this was kind of light, fun reading. But I also really loved the authors ability to tread the perfect middle between the comic moments of our lives and the horrors out there. Would love to find something similar
