I’m researching gateways to hell. Thinks the Hellmouth in Buffy, the puzzle box in The Books of Blood, and Lucio Fulci’s Gates of Hell films. What are some books (great or awful!) featuring a gateway to Hell? Fiction or nonfiction books with perspectives on Hell would be great. Especially books that talk about Hellmouths outside of western literature.

Samuel Johnson trilogy by John Connelly
For a light/comedic take on it, there’s Summon the Keeper by Tanya Huff.
*On Heroes and Tombs*- Ernesto Sabato (the “Report on the Blind” part)
Johannes Cabal the Necromancer by Jonathan Howard
Nifft the Lean by Michael Shea, in particular the story “Fishing the Demon Sea”. The book is notoriously hard to find, but worth it if you do.
