I’m looking for a book to gift my aunt, she likes historical fiction with romance and/or empowering women themes. She has mostly read ones based in japan and china 200+ years ago, I think she enjoys the unfamiliar aesthetic (anything noneuropean/USA), social atmosphere, and customs described. Looking for some that check those boxes and it doesn’t necessarily have to be based in East Asia, something based in tsardom Russia for example would be far enough removed.
