I decided to read this novel, because this book is praised as a good modern extreme horror.

Briefly about the plot, Lori is in love with the maniac Edmund, with whom she talks in prison, and also texts. At the beginning of the book, he gives her the task to take an important thing from his hut and go with it to the River Man.

The story is good. The first half is Lori's journey to the River Man, the second is a meeting with the River Man himself and the revelation of Lori's terrible past. It was interesting, and by the second half the tension was getting more and more, and the ending was pleasing.

Now about Lori, because the book is written on her behalf most of the time. This is a character from the category: from tolerable to terrible. And that was the idea. Lori is selfish, unable to admit her guilt, obsessed with a maniac, envious, vicious bitch. And you're just waiting for her to be killed.

And Edmund is nothing interesting yet. It's just Richard Ramirez named differently.

But the River Man is an interesting character. He fulfills any desires, but in return he makes a person embittered and cruel, where his hut is located everything is repainted in blood red, and he looks like a corpse on which all sorts of insects crawl, and on his hands there are seven fingers. And he already seems like a charismatic villain to me.

The author's writing style is good. It is easy to read, and I liked the chapters in the form of a letter. Descriptions of scary moments were made atmospheric, just goosebumps.

So it's a good novel. He's short and interesting, River Man is an interesting villain, and the writing style is good.
