For context, this was my first pd book and seeing everyone talk about how "good" her books were, I was like okay let's try it out. Clearly, I didn't know what I was getting myself into. Corrupt wasn't just dark romance. It was straight up abuse and the relationship between Rika and Micheal was toxic af. It's insane to me how Rika married Micheal despite him allowing his friends to harass and abuse her physically and mentally.
I even read Kill Switch because I wanted to see the character development for Damon and I can't believe I'm saying this, but his CD was better than Micheal.

It surprises me that there are people reading Hoover, Douglas, or SJM just to see what the hype is only to complain about how problematic and toxic it is. I thought by this point it’s pretty common knowledge and that those are the kinds of books that social media likes. I know I don’t like the sort of stuff Hoover and Douglas write just from looking at the blurb. Not going to waste time reading it. I don’t need to know why everyone loves it. Booktok etc just has very different tastes from me. I just avoid anything they hype up at this point.

well the devils night series is my absolute favorite series ever. Unfortunately these books are dark romances so these are really common things to be written about in dark romance book.
Penelope Douglas has a pedo..kink. I haven’t read any of her books, but I’ve read reviews. Something must have happened to her, and instead of of getting therapy, she turns that trauma into a book, thus trying normalize that shit.
