I’m sure I could think of more if I give it some thought, but the first that comes to mind is *Catcher in the Rye*. I don’t enjoy Holden’s voice, I think the narration is dry and frustrating, and I don’t particularly enjoy unpacking it in discussion with my class because there are really only a couple layers of merit worth peeling back.
So many of my students poke at Holden for being insufferable but miss the fact that *they are him*. So it’s worth teaching, and of course I think it’s a valuable text, it just isn’t my personal cup of tea.
