Lately I've been in a sci-fi mood and I'm looking for some suggestions. In particular, I've been rewatching Stargate Universe. Part of the central premise of the show, being stranded on a ship that's been traveling through the universe at faster-than-light speeds for millions of years, has really been calling to me. Sadly, Stargate Universe only had two seasons and never had a chance to dig into the themes and ideas it introduced as deeply as I would have liked.
Can anyone suggest a book that somewhat follows this theme? I'd love something about extreme deep space exploration, bit of friction and tension between characters, weird science stuff, that sort of thing. Preferably something that isn't too militaristic or based in a war. A bit of horror mixed in would be nice as well.
Thanks!

I think you might be interested in **Beacon 23** by Hugh Howey. It’s like the 26th or 27th century, and man has really started to put a toehold into deep space travel. But to help guide them through the pretty newly discovered areas, there are “beacons” placed – which are essentially space lighthouses to help ships navigate deep space. A man working alone on one of these beacons is surprised by a ship that seems to be in distress. After letting the ship dock for repairs. It becomes clear that both the beacon keeper and the pilot seriously doubt whether they can trust the other.
