i'm a sucker for good character creation and development and i usually swallow books with great characters whole, no matter the genre lol. there's only one genre i actively dislike and avoid and that is romance books in which the romance is the most important part of the story, so i ask that you don't mention those.
the more complex characters and their relationships and dynamics with one another the better! (i'm also a big fan of platonic love in fiction so there's a hint as well)

The good old Harry Potter series!
I think you’d enjoy “The Long Way to a Small, Angry Planet“ by Becky Chambers. It’s a sci-fi road-trip story to be very simplistic about it and I absolutely love every character in it! The whole crew has such good found family vibes. It stands very well on its own but if you like it there are three other books in the series related to the world to dig into too.
Assassin’s Apprentice by Robin Hobb.
Fitz is such a great character and Hobb’s prose is incredible.
