I was at a bar ordering a drink when at a distance I was enthralled by the cover this book where someone was reading it. While waiting I decided to one click buy it on Amazon.
This happened to be one of the best books I have read. 10/10
First time in my life where I felt the majority of characters were very flawed while reading.
You feel you come across tragedy in media or books there is a time skip. This was a journey that stuck with us throughout.
I felt like I knew Ruthie was gonna come back from the beginning but it was nice that halfway they tell us it’s actually his daughter Leah.
Joe was such a love hate character you empathize with him losing two siblings where he could have done something different those days. But you hate he ran away for the rest of his life and hit his wife.
I really think about Joe’s hunting trip with his dad. How his Dad was teaching him the way with nature and told the mom. Joe did good. I loved that.
Ruthie’s arc was amazingly written and well done with the strangers she was around and the new family she was doomed to be with.
From her reserved father that was more understanding to her mother she realized she still loved her from all that smothering.
It was funny and eye opening to see Alice and Aunt June’s relationship. Like oh okay I see y’all.
It was crazy going to see when Ruthie would find out about her history. When she’s on her vacation and gets asked about her Indian card. Also realizing what happens with Charlie is how Aunt June was able to piece together Ruthie’s family.
The ending with Joe passing and Ruthie realizing she can let go of her ghosts was beyond powerful.
It felt an arrow to the heart. This ending. It’s honestly highly good. Maybe you can judge a book by its cover.
