For my niece! She loves cute little relationships in books too, nothing too serious and nothing adult. She enjoyed Harry Potter, and loves darker elements / witches. Any suggestions?:$
If she can handle the later Harry Potters, she will really enjoy the Abhorsen Trilogy by Garth Nix. The first book is Sabriel

The Belgariad & Mallorean Quintologies
The Elenium & Tamuli Trilogies
by David & Leah Eddings.
High fantasy adventures, great dialogue, in the Belgariad/Mallorean the protagonist Garion is followed from Childhood so easy to get younger readers engaged as they have a perspective in the story told from their around their age.

The Gammage Cup and The Whisper of Glocken be Carol Kendall. I loved these as a kid.

Is Series of Unfortunate Events too young for her? I have no concept of ages really any more, but I loved those reading them when I was younger. Excellent vocabulary also!

Sherwood Smith,
Tamora Pierce,
[Nevermoor](https://app.thestorygraph.com/books/6a6d5ca1-b2f5-47be-828c-018144d3bbc7) by Jessica Townsend! It’s my favorite series even as an adult, and the only one that makes me feel the way the Harry Potter books used to.
