I mean especially online. Reading sometimes feels like a niche activity, despite best sellers. In person there’s probably more of a community aspect due to literature clubs and stuff like that, but those are smaller groups.

Videogames and anime seem to have a lot of youtube dedicated channels, discussions, memes, theories and stuff like that. Films seem to have their community growing stronger than ever. Literature has this subreddit, a couple more and Goodreads, it seems. Though I’m not sure how much interactive or substancial it can get (I don’t use them very often). There’s some books with a lot of fanfiction and fan support, but only with the most popular ones (at least for the most part).

What do you think? Is there a very developed, lively community?

Have you just literally never heard of BookTok? Certainly reading is something people do less than watching television/playing videogames but let’s not pretend it’s that obscure, either. This sub has 23 million subs.
