Looking for picture books like Where the Wild Things Are, Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs, or Alexander’s Terrible Horrible No Good Very Bad Day, but may not be as widely known or remembered.
I think Tove Jansson’s picture books are classics that are somewhat overlooked despite Moomin merchandise being everywhere. *The Book About Moomin, Mymble and Little My* in particular doesn’t quite get recognition it deserves for how groundbreaking it was in its design. *Who Will Comfort Toffle?* is also lovely .

Honestly don’t know if this is really “lesser known,” but my favorite picture book was **Go Dog Go** by PD Eastman. I made my mom read it to me like 6 times a night. It’s the first book I ever “read” – which is to say my mom read it to me so much I memorized it.

Aliki Brandenberg (or just Aliki) seems to have slipped down in popularity, but I loved her books, and seeing her artwork in children’s magazines as a kid.
Anything illustrated by Garth Williams is worth reading too, especially the Francis books and Charlotte’s Web.
