    Hey,everyone! I'm from Brazil and have been learning English for the past 7 years.

    I believe I have reached an advanced level of comprehension, but my reading skills need some sharpening.

    It's also become clear that I have some vocabulary gaps. For example, I am not sure I would be able to name all objects in a kitchen, write a decent grocery list, etc.

    Basically, I need books where characters live through situations that revolve around these "basic" topics. It would also help if they're on the shorter side, but it's not a problem if they're longer stories.

      Hi, OP, congratulations on your progress with English! The following are what I thought of:

      The Old Man and the Sea by Ernest Hemingway

      The Remains of the Day by Kazuo Ishiguro

      Sipsworth by Simon Van Booy (this might fit what you want perfectly; lots of descriptions of the main character’s daily tasks)
