I’m looking for a book that can appeal to the young adult male demographic that isn’t “for men” in the sense of like axe body spray or the Roman Empire or the stereotypical male marketing if that makes sense. Though still I’d like something that a man can relate to on a deeper/emotional level. No specific genre but I really want something that’s going to stick with me and that I’ll think about for the next week or so. Any help is greatly appreciated:)

{{ The Hour I First Believed by Wally Lamb }}
BEARTOWN
Blood Meridian
Red Rising by Pierce Brown
My favorite series when I was 19 was Discworld. Given the context I’d suggest starting with Guards! Guards! which is a hard boiled detective story in a high fantasy setting.
I’m rereading it 20 years later, so I can’t promise you’ll only think about it for a week.
Some great, accessible books about young men:
Where The Line Bleeds by Jesmyn Ward
Sag Harbor by Coulson Whitehead
The Adventures Of Kavalier & Clay by Michael Chabon
All The Pretty Horses and The Crossing by Cormac McCarthy
Master and Commander by Patrick O’Brian
Sometimes a Great Notion by Ken Kesey
The Dog Stars by Peter Heller
Desert Solitaire by Edward Abbey
For Whom the Bell Tolls by Ernest Hemingway
The Will to Change by bell hooks
The body by Stephen King
One flew over the cuckoos nest by Ken Kesey
THE PLOVER; LAST SEEN LEAVING
There’s a short story collection by Wells Tower called *Everything Ravaged, Everything Burned*. I used to recommend it to my young male students (and everybody else, tbh) because I feel like it shows several different types of modern masculinity, all complex and realistic. Plus the stories are really well written.
Boy’s Life by Robert McCammon
I really enjoy The Descendents, and its film adaptation. No clue why it connects with me, but it does. I think it fits your requirements well.
