My favorite genre is sci-fi but my book club is full of Romantasy types, although we do different genres like contemporary fiction, true crime, etc. And we’ve done a few sci-fi, everyone loved Project Hail Mary and Dark Matter.

I personally have read and loved Bobiverse, The Expanse, Murderbot Diaries, and Seveneves.

Could you suggest a few good sci-fi options along these lines that won’t be too “hard sci-fi” for the others? We generally make a list of about 4 and vote on one.

I was thinking Foundation by Asimov (we usually do book 1 then everyone can decide to continue the series or not), but I’m not sure if that’s going to be good for them.

The quantum evolution trilogy by Derek kunsken. Consider Phlebas by Iain M. Banks (or any of banks’s culture novels)

    2. I will always recommend The Martian by Andy Weir to those wanting to dip their toes into the genre of sci-fi. Though, I’m unsure about the similarity between it and Dark Matter / Foundations by Asimov, as I have never read them before.

    3. I’m in a scifi club too. We just read translation state by Ann leckie. I’d recommend the first book in the series if you haven’t read it- Ancillary Justice.

I also recommend A Memory Called Empire by Arkady Martine.
