I'm looking for a book that gives me the same depressing vibe as the TV shows Narcos or Chernobyl or the Sicario movies. I prefer non fiction, but I'd like something that focuses closely on some individuals. I've read The Great Influenza and I'd say that's the closest. If it's fiction, my favorites along these lines are Never Let Me Go and 1984. Thank you! Oh, no YA please.

Have you heard of Voices from Chernobyl by Svetlana Alexievich? Nonfiction, personal stories about the aftermath of the Chernobyl disaster
