Hello I am looking for some books to get me back into reading. I used to be a library devourer (when I had more time in high school/college I read almost every fantasy and scifi book in the nearby libraries). But, now I have barely read since getting out into the world and post covid. Only thing I have really read lately is a couple light novels that popped across my feed (reincarnated as a slime and wortenia) as well as webnovels (like wandering inn) that I have been able to read on my phone when work was slow.
Back when I was constantly reading some of my favorite novels were the Dresden Files by Butcher, The Goblin Emperor by Addison, and a few different space operas. Also remember liking a book about notdnd characters being cognizant but really cannot remember the name of it.
I really want something that isn’t super drama filled, tense or depressing since the world is that way enough so don’t need no more haha. It can have that stuff in it (my favorite piece of media to date (ffxiv) has a ton of that in it treats it like a good spice, just a touch in the right places). Just don’t want a game of thrones or depressing tale like cyberpunk 2077 where its super hopeless or murder/drama constantly. Also REALLY hate anything that follows the trope of trying to rescue someone that has been kidnapped.
For genres and subject matter I would be specially interested anything that isn’t the here and now or just a neat twist. So something fantasy, scifi, urban fantasy, space western or some weird mix thereof.
Appreciate any help, wanting to get back into reading and struggling to get into anything lately.

Can’t go wrong with Discworld! I always recommend starting with Guards Guards! or Mort.
