Hamnet is great. Wolf Hall. Pachinko. All the Light we Cannot See. Any specific sub-genre? There’s so many good ones.

If you haven’t read anything by Geraldine Brooks, see which time period she addresses seems most interesting to you.

      imo…
      Year of Wonders was great.
      Calebs Crossing was good.
      March was good.

    4. Historical fantasy? **Jonathan Strange and Mr Norrell** by Susanna Clarke is one of my favorite books. **His Majesty’s Dragon** by Naomi Novik is another great pick. They’re both set during the Napoleonic Wars—the first one is about English Magic awakening from a long slumber, the other is about a Navy captain who is forced to join the Aerial Corps when a dragon imprints on him.

I love “Strange and Norrell” so much because there are some minor antagonists but no BBEG. Instead, the plot is driven by factions of good guys working at cross purposes.

    5. Pachinko by Min Jin Lee (one of my all time favorite books)

      Homegoing by Yaa Gyasi

The Covenant of Water by Abraham Verghese

The Mountains Sing by Nguyễn Phan Quế Mai

The Good Earth by Pearl Buck (warning, the main character is extremely unlikable lol)
