I have merely read 4-5 novels so far, but they take more time than expected because of their length & English being my second language. I prefer non fiction over fiction. Any Theme/Genre will work.
A novel is a “fictitious prose narrative of book length.” You want a “short non-fiction narrative book.”

How do you feel about narrative nonfiction? I really loved *A River Runs Through It and Other Stories* by Norman Maclean. They’re true short stories about his time in the mountainous West as a fisherman, a logger, a wildfire smokejumper, and a park serviceman, as well as his relationships with his father and brother.
It’s all nonfiction but they’re told in beautiful prose. Very touching works, some of my favorite of all time.
