The Mercy of Gods by James S A Corey has this, but it just came out so there’s only one book out. You could also try The Expanse series by the same author(s)

* The [Hainish Cycle](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Hainish_Cycle#Hainish_Cycle_bibliography) by Ursula K. Le Guin. Similar to the Culture, these can be read in any order. I like to imagine that the Hainish cycle is the distant past of the Culture series. There’s some similarities, but it’s much lower tech and smaller scale. The books change in tone significantly from the earlier works to the later ones, but they are good in their own ways.
* The Sparrow by Mary Doria Russel
* The Xenogenesis series by Octavia E. Butler
* Blindsight by Peter Watts. Sci fi horror. Available as a free ebook on the [author’s website](https://rifters.com/real/shorts.htm), though the sequel is not.
* Revelation Space by Alastair Reynolds. Has a similar sort of timeless space opera vibe as the Culture series.
