My friends and I have a lil book club! We’re all highly educated and busy people with good reading comprehension, but because we are all so busy and burnt out, we don’t want to read anything that will challenge us in any way. We are purely in this for fun and not learning.
Our first book that we just finished was Fourth Wing. We all hated it, but it was incredibly fun to make fun of and write notes on and make (generally very accurate) predictions of exactly what was going to happen. It was also fun to overanalyze half-assed worldbuilding and psychoanalyze the author a little.
I’d love some suggestions for more books that would be fun to read and pick apart and make predictions and pass judgment on the characters and author and such. Bonus points if the book sucks a little (or is just kind of unintentionally bizarre) but has redeeming qualities that will make us not want to give up on reading it.
Another book I read recently (not as a book club, but still) was Memoirs of a Geisha. I mention this because something like that would also be fun to read for something like this because it’s an engaging book but it is also completely infuriating for reasons the author did not intend.
Sorry if this request is vague! TL;DR Please recommend me books that are fun, low mental effort, and possibly a little shitty in an entertaining way!
