Is there a book that helps me understand why someone is religious?
I don't know much about religion, I'm an atheist. I know that religion is complicated, but I don't want to learn religious theory, just the psychology or the reasons that makes a person religious.
They call it the Bible but there are probably thousands of versions. Pick one.

weird recommendation but I would say the Alchemist by Paulo Coelho.
It’s way over-hyped but it’s still a good book, and I found it spiritual and religious.

As a Christian the Bible is an obvious recommendation. If you’re looking for something that isn’t the Bible, Mere Christianity is a good book by CS Lewis that’s great.

The left behind series probably. House by frank someone and Ted dekker was good not necessarily why someone would be religious but it illustrated heaven and hell and good and evil in a very modern way both of which are fiction but could shed some light.
