(SPOILERS FOR ‘THE INVISIBLE LIFE OF ADDIE LARUE’ AND ‘LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY)

By this I mean where the turning point doesn’t happen for a while. For example, in The Invisible Life of Addie LaRue, Henry isn’t introduced until about 100 pages in. Or how in Lessons in Chemistry, Calvin doesn’t die for a good while. For both books, the contents of their summaries don’t happen until after these turning-point events. I like books like this because they give you time to actually care about the story and the characters. If anyone knows any other books like this, please recommend them 🙂

    1. I would say We are legion (We are Bob), first book from the bobiverse, fits well. The conflict starts some time later and even then are small conflicts that grow over time in the series.

    2. Maybe try some epics, they usually take their time developing the characters and settings before the plot moves forward. Lonesome Dove for example, which is commonly recommended in this sub, takes around 200 pages for the plot to begin, all that time is spent on character development mostly.

    3. The drama in D. Pahnke’s **Us: An Intimacy Innovation** doesn’t appear until *way* into the story. The plot line is shy *he* teaches popular *she* how to find ‘forever love’.

    4. The Idiot by Dostoevsky. The whole action of the book comes in waves to reflect the epilepsy of the main character, with the first one coming about 100 pages into the book. The story is also incredibly unpredictable, and until the last pages, I had no idea how the conflict was going to resolve itself.

      The Belles by Dhonielle Clayton

Theres some building up throughout the first book but nothing really climactic happens until the end of it
