I just got done reading "The Tainted Cup" and even though it was a bit flawed, I really enjoyed it! That said, I've got a long wait ahead of me for the sequel and my list of fantasy-inspired thrillers is now depleted.

I love detective books, but I've read so many of them that the mundane, typical settings just don't do it for me anymore. I need something beyond the ordinary. And I'd enjoy it a bit more if it's spooky, though not goory.

"Hound of the Baskerviles", "Phantoms" by D. Koontz and "Dracul' by J. D. Barker are some of my favorite books.

    Thanks in advance!

    1. I’m not sure if it fits your criteria exactly because it contains no overt fantasy elements, but China Miéville’s *The City and the City* is a noir detective story that’s definitely “out of the ordinary”.
