Historically, I have always been about homesteading/farming/survival/nature writing – Prodigal Summer, The Great Alone, The Overstory, Go As A River, Greenwood, The Seed Keeper… many others.
In October, I read The Secret History. It took me the entire month. It kind of took over my life. I looked forward to getting to read more every day. I hated all of the characters, and yet, I could not stop. It was so different from anything I have ever read and yet I loved it!!!! And hated it, obviously, but mostly loved it… I love that it kept with my ‘appreciation for the New England seasons’ theme but threw in a little academic flair. I’m a grad student in New England so that just felt right.
I’ve been pouring over the recommendation lists for people who enjoyed The Secret History, but the recommendations for dark academia often have elements of YA, Fantasy, or both. Neither of which are my style.
Do you have any recommendations for books that fit this hyper niche category?
