For those who are interested in sci-fi but don’t know where to start, time and again I see _Project Hail Mary_ by Andy Weir and _Dark Matter_ by Blake Crouch suggested, and for good reason. They are fast-paced page turners, with well written characters and don’t go too heavy with the sci-fi concepts.
What are the equivalents for your favourite genre? Fantasy, romance, mystery etc.

Agatha Christie in general for mystery. Have not read her myself, but I have had recommendations to start with The Murder of Roger Ackroyd or And Then There Were None.
