This is a huge tradpub book, so there’s no excuse whatsoever, but I have never seen a book with such a miss-match between the marketing and the actual contents of the book.
It was marketed as a horror/thriller/90s babysitting slasher, but the actual contents are slow, boring, lacking even any attempt at scares until the very end. It character developmented itself right out of being a thriller.
I really would love to know what went on at Harper to make this happen. It’s sitting at a 2.87 on Goodreads for two big reasons: it wasn’t categorized correctly and the blurb was misleading. Thank you to the public library, though, for an easy check-out and return process.
