I want to read a tale of betrayal and redemption in a land of all-enveloping blizzards, deep old forests, and rugged mountains. People barely make it back to their places of warmth without freezing to death or being eaten by wolves. Help from friends and family means life or death.

Does anyone know a story or two with this vibe? The details needn't match the above; just make it cold and about people depending on each other, for better or worse.

    1. Planet of Exile, or The Left Hand of Darkness by Ursula K. Le Guin. The Left Hand of Darkness is, imo, better, but it’s much harder to get into.
