I’m not sure if microhistory is the correct term for this, but I love reading about relatively obscure, small parts of history. People who would otherwise be forgotten if they had not left some record behind, like Franz Schmidt, who I read about in The Faithful Executioner, or Martha Ballard from A Midwife’s Tale. Just little stories about ordinary people who existed in their small corner of the world for a fleeting moment in time.
