Curious if anyone here has ever been to jail and if there were any books they read that kept them sane? Or even if you haven’t been to jail, what would you read to keep sane or just to pass the time?
I’d do badly…I never have enough books and reread my collection in between new stuff. In Jail, nothing else to do? I’d need thousands….and I know there is a certain amount of censorship.
Not to mention, how many they get, not exactly known for having comprehensive libraries, at least not in this country.

There’s a guy on Tiktok, Comrade Sinque, who talks about his twenty years in prison and books he read that helped him. It’s an interesting topic.

As mentioned by u/b_lurky, Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. A modern translation would be ideal.
Also, Mathematics for Human Flourishing, by Francis Su and with letters (“reflections”) by Christopher Jackson, who is an inmate in a federal prison. In prison, he began studying math and later began a correspondence with the author, a university math professor.
