Books that immerse you in a community or a place with vivid characters.

I just finished Olive Kitteridge and loved it, especially the fact that it painted a vivid picture of a whole community which added texture to the rough edges of the protagonist and her marriage. I also loved the setting, the small coastal Maine town was so atmospheric and immersive.

I've heard Lonesome Dove and Big Little Lies might be a good next read in a similar vein. What would you suggest, oh literary ones.
