As someone who frequently has problems with sleeping one piece of advice you sometimes find in the internet is to just lie in bed and read a good book to get tired. But already since school the biggest mistake I could do was to start reading shortly before I wanted to sleep. I would either get so absorbed in the story – even from books that I already read once or twice or ten-times – or just thought »Well one more chapter couldn't hurt…« and just… read until 3 am and regretting everything. It wasn't even just a problem for books, I could also spend hours reading fanfiction without getting a bit tired. More like the opposite.
So I just wanted to know if there are people out there who really read like a chapter before going to sleep as some sort of ritual or for whom reading itself helps to get sleepy? And if so don't you have the problem to get absorbed in the story or do you just read some specific kinds of books where you don't risk getting lost in the story for hours?

My wife and I will get in bed not long after dinner and read for a couple of hours. I’ll usually go a little longer. I’ll probably read from like 8:30 – 11:00, I just have to force myself to stop or I’ll end up awake too late also.
