For some reason, I notice that some people think that if the character is the main one, then he is positive (especially with Humbert). And this surprises me, because for me the main character is the character through whom we observe the plot. It doesn't have to be positive.
I can think of three such characters. Humbert Humbert, Patrick Bateman and Fang Runin.
The first is a pedophile who is an unreliable narrator and says that it was a little girl who seduced him, and not he who took her in.
The second is a psychotic Wall Street yuppie, who at some point in time begins to kill living beings.
The third becomes bloodthirsty as the story progresses, and its prototype is the Chinese dictator Mao Zedong. Also, she is never shown to be right in cases where she acted terribly.
