hi! so, back when i was younger i read a LOT. my mom grounded me from reading once because i just wouldn't stop, so a lot a lot. i'm not sure what happened but i just haven't found anything i love for a lonngggg time (but i also just haven't really looked). i'd like to get back into reading, but it's so hard to find something i'll enjoy enough to get back into the habit.
lately, i've read these:
pride and prejudice, jane austen
phantom of the opera, gaston leroux
i really enjoy both of these books, but the older sentence structures and that sort of thing probably aren't best suited to get me out of a slump. that said, i love period pieces and i LOVE gothic fiction. i would love to read something in line with those genres, just with a more modern writing style. in case it may help, some other general and some more specific things i like:
vampires (count orlok or edward cullen, i love all vampires)
romance
high fantasy (additionally, i love the super sparkly fantasy of the 80s)
gothic musicals (worth noting separately cus i like the extravagance. think rocky horror, tanz der vampire, elisabeth, etc)
the only thing i feel is worth noting as a hard pass is a ton of explicit sexual content. i don't know how else to describe it other than that the booktok spice sort of thing (not meant to be a jab at anyone!!) isn't really up my alley.
