I’m looking to collect another work to include in a new project about the intellectual housewife. My focus is how the traditional homemaker can intellectualize her mundane daily life and create such meaningful feminist thought that greatly contrasts her position in society. I’d like to start with a nod to the TV show, “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel”, with Midge as a prime trope of an indirectly rich 1960s housewife who challenges her reputation. To follow, I want to use “Lección de Cocina” (translation: “Cooking Lesson”) a short story by Rosario Castellanos to examine the same principle, adding a cultural element to this one, as it follows the same archetype as a Mexican woman. I think one more work would be able to smooth all of my ideas together, preferably an author of Latin American origin (a niche interest of mine). I was considering using work from Sor Juana Inés de la Cruz, but I’m afraid her work doesn’t concern this exact aspect of gender roles (she was a nun instead of a wife). Please list recommendations that consider these topics, can be from any kind of media(short story is preferred). Thank you!
