I am currently on residential treatment in a psychiatric hospital. I have some free time in between appointments, sessions and groups, so i am looking for suggestions for what to read. I am well stocked on "light" literature, novellas, (science-)fiction etc, but i also packed, on a whim, Nietzsches Zaratusthra, which i had lying around since i did not read it for a Nietzsche Seminar back at university.

I am not a huge fan of a lot Nietzsche has to say, and his prose is… well, i dont know about english translation, but in german, its… rocky. But in my current setting, i liked the change of perspective on the self the book offered me, even if it i only found elements interesting or if it only gave me an interesting thought, idea or a comparison here and there.

So: I am looking for similar experiences in books, philosophers talking about ones perspective or station in life, about the individuals purpose, the search for it or the nonexistance of it, etc. Contrasting views are appreciated.

I am not at all interested in spiritual, esotherical or religious takes though, truth be told Nietzsche was, for a declared atheist, already a bit too esitorical for my taste.

Anything come to mind? I am ready to bury the nice ladies at the clinics reception in book-shipments.
