After reading Grossmans' "On killing" I became interested in some of the themes explored in it, especially the practical concerns of troop rotation and the way technology and global politics influence how wars are waged today. I was wondering whether there may be some works that examine those and similar questions in depth in a way that would be comprehensible to a layman but not in a way that strays too far into pop science or anything of this sort. Speculative theory on how war might also evolve would also be welcome although in a way that's forward thinking and grounded in reality and not too Sci-fi. Do any books of this kind come to mind?
