I’ve been gifted an Audible credit and I’m hoping to find my next comfort read/listen for when I’m just wanting to relax and escape into a nice little (or not so little) story – something I’ll come back to every year or so to revisit old friends 🙂
I’d really like something with a rescue, hurt/comfort or “who did this to you” plot but it’s not 100% necessary.
I’d rather stand alones or a series where at least that story wraps up with the book (there’s probably a more technical term for that) and would definitely give bonus points for LGBTQ inclusion (doesn’t have to be MC), chosen family, healing trauma/baggage, and any kind of scholarly/geeky/academic vibe.
I’d prefer to avoid spoilers here but if it’s a slow burn/start but worth the effort, I’d love to know.
Stuff I like, generally speaking:
-magical-realism/real world but has a bit of magic
-genre stuff: fantasy, historical, romance (especially if queer and/or not traditional patriarchal bs)
-getting lost in story, not pulled out by technical details or extensive world building info dumps
-intensity/violence is ok if not the whole point (no horror/gore/thriller/crime)
-humour, nod to classic storytelling/genre tropes etc
Recent favs:
-One Last Stop
-Slippery Creatures
-Fifth Season
-Station Eleven
-Legends and Lattes (haven’t finished as had to return to library 🙁
