Seanen McGuire has a series about a changling (half fae, half human) that is fabulous. The first book is called Rosemary and Rue. There are so many different types of non-human characters. Might be worth checking out.

Daughter of The Pirate King by Tricia Levenseller is awesome. I won’t tell you the species of the protagonist, though, because it is only partially revealed until the middle of the book.
