I just figured out I haven't read much from this region, mostly because I am not good with magical realism, at all. I tried, but they didn't work for me due to that factor.
I like to read stories about the lives of common people, and their challenges as they navigate contemporary/historical social/political issues.
Bonus – interested in indigenous culture.
I am looking for fiction from Latin American countries that focus on the lives of common people. Please no magical realism.
I didn't like Mexican gothic.
