To try to narrow down what I like, here's me trying to briefly justify my top 5 picks:
Catch-22 is the funniest book I've ever read. It's very outlandish and the comedy is rather "stupid", which makes it fit for me. It employs a very high vocabulary and is very smartly written, though none of the characters share that intelligence.
Tom Sawyer made such an impact on me as a kid. It's so adventrous and intriguing, and the first time I ever read the graveyard chapter is still imprinted in my head.
The ABC Murders is more than just a murder mystery, it's a moving story about people heavily impacted by violent crime.
11/22/63 has such a great depiction of romance, old school living, and happiness. It's full of adventure, tough times, horrible and great things. The ending is great.
I have never read a character more like me than Martin Eden. The way he describes things is exactly the way that I do, especially how he verbalizes his feelings.
