I love reading, and most often with books considered sad I manage to be sad, for romance books or other I manage to feel the emotion that the author wanted to highlight, except for the horror books I feel like you can't be scared or disturbed just by reading pages, whereas with a film I can do that very well. So does anyone have a title that might change my mind?

      Maybe *Cujo*?

It’s a monster novel without any supernatural elements.

      Just steadily increasing dread.

Have you tried body horror? Something like The Sluts by Dennis Cooper for example.

      I would check out r/horrorlit

Unfortunately what scares people is so subjective, it’s hard to determine what would scare you personally. There’s so much variety in horror, paranormal, body horror, slashers, psychological, ect.

Unfortunately most haven’t scare me, but a few got close.

      The Ruins – Scott Smith

Mary and awakening of Terror and Nestlings both my Nat Cassidy made me uncomfortable. Which is about as closed to scared as I have gotten.

Between Two Fires by Christopher Buelhman is amazing religious horror.

The Haar and Maggie’s Grave by David Sodergren both are short gory reads by my favorite author.

Edit to add: Earthlings by Sayaka Murata disturbed me the most out of anything I have read.

The Night Stockers by Kristopher Triana and Ryan Harding is just really messed up disgusting, disturbing horror.
