Hi, is there any books suggestion (both fiction and non-fiction are fine) on nuances and subtleties (changing the tone and mood) in the English language?
My English is reasonably solid (particularly in the school setting), but I feel a bit exposed and sometimes lost in more casual and conversational setting. I think my gaps are in not spotting and understanding the nuances and subtleties in the language. Thank you very much!!!
*first time poster here, so please excuse me if I break any rules here.

There are some humorous books about the English language by Richard Lederer. The first one I read was {{ Anguished English }}. I also recommend other titles of his, {{ The Miracle of Language }} and {{ A Man of My Words: Reflections on the English Language }}. Not sure if this is what you’re looking for but they are highly entertaining!
