Hi all!
I’m looking to read something that taps into the horror of like, the house and the nuclear family as spaces of sadness and anger and spiritual darkness. Doesn’t need to be supernatural (though it can be), and I’d prefer something more delicate and atmospheric than gritty or procedural.
Also would be interested in nonfiction around this topic if anyone has litcrit suggestions!
Some reference points (books/video games/movies):
Fever Dream by Samantha Schweblin
Border of Paradise by Esme Weijun Wang
Skinamarink by Kyle Edward Ball
Guillermo del Toro’s P.T.
Anatomy by Kitty Horrorshow
Devotion by Red Candle Games
(I’ve read Yellow Wallpaper and Shirley Jackson, just to head those off at the pass)
