I only recently got back into reading at the end of last year so I’ve been trying to read a bit of everything to really nail down my genre of choice.
A common theme I’m seeing is I love books that feel almost like a fairytale and I really enjoy books where the main character goes to a new/magical world.
Some of my favorites this year have been:
Strange the Dreamer – loved the library vibes at the beginning and then traveling to the mythical city of Weep
Piranesi- mysterious labyrinth with gorgeous scenery and a main character that oozes kindness
The Starless Sea- a bunch of stories all woven together and a main setting of an underground sea. Writing that invokes a lot of imagery.
Caraval- YA magical traveling “carnival”. Again, lots of imagery of colorful and fantastic elements but with a slightly dark and mysterious plot happening.
Tress of the Emerald Sea – unique world, animal companion and a journey across the world to rescue her true love
What are some of your favorites that fit these types of vibes?
