In many first-person books, the narrator has little personality and such a boring perspective I’d actually prefer the book to be 3rd person. But hot damn, a book that does its narrator right is guaranteed to be a fantastic book.
I even don’t mind third-person books when it’s clearly shown the first-person narrator has a personality and makes commentary on the work. It really does add to that feel of sitting in a room on a cold rainy day, cradling a warm cup and listening to a friend tell a story.
So redditors, who is your favorite narrator in fiction, so intertwined with the story that telling in 3rd person would make the story lose all its charm?

Lolita. Touchy subject, though.
The Lesser Dead by Christopher Buelhman. Unreliable narrator and vampires, what more could one ask for?
